The band had been together for 5 years and had 4 members. Over the years the drummer had been replaced once and the bass player had left the band and returned several times.
The band had been playing almost weekly at local bars and clubs for 2 years but was no closer to signing a deal.
How did they get signed to a record label?
The Park City Music Festival was coming up and they knew it would draw a lot of music lovers. The guy said the style of music they play had nothing to do with the type of music played at the festival but he still figured out how to use it to their advantage. Knowing that there would be people coming in from out of town for the festival...
The rapper had been rapping for 3 years but only started trying to get signed to a deal in the last year.
He used to download free beats from the internet and rap over them. He would then upload his songs to his own website on the internet. From there he would tweet out links to his songs to his followers. The tweets would lead people back to his website. He was using software to build up his twitter followers and said that he had close to 47,000 followers at one time. On one of his songs he tweeted out, he got over 4,000 downloads in three days.
Olivia, the former first lady of G unit records, is the latest "established" artist to get a record deal . In April of 2012 she signed a recording contract with Wonda Music
While you might know her from 50 cents G-Unit records, that wasn't her first record deal. The first record deal that she signed was with J Records back in 2002. She was actually the first artist signed to J records. That's no small thing. Clive Davis is the owner of J records and Clive Davis is an industry legend. He's the same guy that signed Whitney Houston back in the day and a ton of other successful artists.
To tell the truth I don't even know if Olivia released an album on G-Unit. She was the female vocalist on 50 cents "Candy Shop" song, but I don't remember...
There are always record labels seeking new artists. After all, the artist is the reason that the record label exists in the first place. But, finding out where and how to submit your music to the record companies can be like walking a maze.

How To Get Signed To Rostrum Records?
Boaz seems to have answered that question.
Rostrum Records, the home of Wiz Khalifa and Macc Miller, announced the signing of another rapper today. Boaz, who is from Pittsburgh, joins what is becoming a high-powered label.
If you don't know who Boaz is, like I don't, apparently he's been busy grinding behind the scenes. He's already been featured in Source Magazine, XXL and on all All Hip Hop dot coms Breeding Ground.
Boaz says it was a natural choice being that Rostrum Records seems to know what the heck they are doing in developing new talent. He also stated that he knew some of the guys already at Rostrum Records and that signing is a good fit for both parties.
